色 / Colour

皆さんは、何色が好きですか？

英語レッスンの序盤で必ず触れる簡単な質問ですが、「色」について話そうとしたら、基礎学習の時間だけでは到底足りないんですよね。

今月の学習テーマは「色」。

サブテーマの一つが「虹色」＋「レインボーフラッグ（虹の旗）」。

「この旗見たことある？」

「LGBTQってどういう意味だろう？」

「どうしてレインボーフラッグは、大切なんだろうね？」

もう一つのサブテーマは「肌の色」。

それぞれが鏡と向き合い「自分は何色？」「あなたは何色？」と問いかけ

世界中の美しい肌の色について考え、インクルーシブの大切さを学んでいます。お互いに敬意を表し、親切な態度をとることは、デコボコ英語の考え方の中でもとても大切な事の一つです。

素晴らしい絵本や、ビデオ、工作やみんなで話し合うことで、今回の学習テーマの「色」は、たくさんのことを私たちに教えてくれています。

ご自宅でそんな話をとする機会を持つ時は、この絵本たちをお勧めします。

What colour do you like?

It's a simple question, one of the first we tackle in English class, and yet these days there are so many important themes connected with colour, just covering the basics doesn't feel like it's enough.

This month in the classroom, when we learn about the colours of the rainbow, we introduce the rainbow flag. Have you seen this flag before? What does LGBTQ mean? Why is the rainbow flag important?

We also take a look in the mirror and ask ourselves, 'What colour am I? What colour are you?' We think about why there are so many beautiful skin colours around the world, and learn the importance of inclusiveness.

Living in Japan, these are questions that we often forget to ask, but particularly as English learners, Deko Boko Eigo believes it's important for our children to understand how to navigate the global community with respect and kindness. We are excited to explore these new themes through story books, videos, crafts, and discussions. If you want to start a conversation at home, we recommend the following books:

ゴミ拾いイベントとドキュメンタリー Rubbish Collecting and Documentary Film

「ゴミ拾いはスポーツだ！サンセット・サンライズ由良大会」のご案内

デコボコ英語のお友だち「山形県 美しい山形・最上川フォーラム」の明子さんより、庄内の由良海岸で開催されるゴミ拾いのお知らせが届きました。

日時　9月5日土曜日16時〜/9月6日日曜日7時〜（1時間半くらい）

場所　由良ふれあい広場

「世の中をもっと美しくするためにわたしたちにできること」について考え、子どもたちからもでたアイデアの一つが「ゴミ拾い」でした。「山形県 美しい山形・最上川フォーラム」の明子さんとしげるさんをレッスンにお招きし、主にプラスチックの良いところ、悪いところについて教えて頂きました。またマイクロプラスチックについても学びました。私たちの身近なところでのゴミ拾いはもちろん、今回は海に流れ出てしまう前にそれを拾おう！という活動です。 夕方と早朝なのでちょっと大変かとは思うのですが、気持ちのいい空気の中でのゴミ拾いです。 また、9月6日日曜日にアズ七日町山形市中央公民館ホールで、マイクロプラスチックの行方を追ったドキュメンタリー映画の上映とトークがあります。 上映とトーク後の16時頃から「ピリカ」というゴミを見える化するアプリを使って周辺のゴミを探してみます。 お隣の萬屋さんの中に海ゴミの見本も展示するそうです。 それぞれのチラシを添付しております。参加を希望される方は、かおるまでお知らせください。 どうぞ宜しくお願いいたします。

'Trash Collection as a Sport! The Sunrise, Sunset Competition'

Our good friend Akiko-san has asked us to pass on the good word about a trash collecting event that will be taking part on September 5th (Saturday) from 4pm, and 6th (Sunday) from 7am at the Yura Fureai Plaza in Shonai. As part of our current theme 'How Can We Make the World More Beautiful?', we have spent quite some time talking about the impact of litter on the environment, and what we can do to help. Akiko-san visited the classroom with the lovely Shigeru-san to teach us about litter, in particular plastic waste, micro plastic in the oceans, and the do's and don'ts of picking up trash, so this is a wonderful opportunity to put our all our hard work into action! Also, a very interesting documentary and talk on the subject of children vs. micro plastic will take place on September 6th at the Chuo Community Hall located in Az Nanukamachi from 4pm. Jobim Power! ジョビンパワー！

Sitting in pride of place, in the middle of our classroom, is the record player. It was one of the first things we bought when we started Deko Boko Eigo. Thanks to Mr. Imokawa generously lending us his classical records, we can shift between Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, Albinoni, and more. Over the past two years we have enjoyed taking tea and learning English to a truly beautiful soundtrack.

This month I brought in an old bossa nova record by Antonio Carlos Jobim. I'm a big jazz fan, but in the past when I've played Glen Miller, the rhythm is too addictive and Kaolu has to remind me to stop dancing, so we tend to stick to classical, but Jobim is something else. The rhythm is catchy, but not intrusive, the singing is perfectly mellow, and the music itself flips between moods from song to song, so it never feels boring. Jobim is magic. Now, normally overly energetic children are sitting quietly, humming themselves, teatime is more civilized. A 4-year-old suddenly started singing,’Luizaaaaaa’, and during class time when asked for an example of what they like, an 8-year-old said proudly, ‘I like Jobim, and fruit!’

It’s the perfect end to a perfect day hearing our kids singing Águas de Março together as they beep out and say goodbye. What are you listening to at home?

デコボコ英語の教室、そのど真ん中にあるもの。それは、レコードプレーヤーです。開校前、どんな空間にしようかと考えていた際にまず二人で決めたのが、レコードプレーヤーでした。五百川さん（かおるの父）から好意で借りているクラシックミュージックのレコード、バッハ、ヘンデル、ヴィヴァルディ、アルビノーニなどなど、この二年間ティータイムや学習中にその美しい音色を子どもたちと楽しんでいます。 8月、ブラジルの作曲家アントニオ・カルロス・ジョビンの古いレコードを買いました。私（ヒラリー）はジャズ好きなんですが、過去にグレン・ミラーをかけていた際、そのリズムにはまり、踊らざるにはいられなくなることに気づき、それ以来、クラシックミュージックのレコードだけをかけるようになっていたんです。でも、ジョビンは別格なようです。 とらえやすく邪魔にならないリズム、歌はとても落ち着いていて次々と展開が変わるので飽きることがありません。ジョビンマジック。 普段は元気いっぱいの子どもたちが静かに腰掛け、ハミングしながらティータイムを過ごすなんて、ものすごく洒落ています。 4歳児が突然’Luizaaaaaa’と歌い出したかと思えば、最近気に入っているものについて対話をしていた8歳の男の子の口からは、‘I like Jobim, and fruit!’ 格好よすぎて、どだなだず！ Águas de Marçoを歌いながらの「またね！」なんて素敵すぎる一日の終わり方です。みなさんはお家でどんな音楽を聴いていますか？
